Vietnam veteran: 2 tours of duty in Indochina with Air Force MedEvac. Graduated from School of International Service, American University, trained in malaria control at CDC Atlanta. Served 4 years as a Peace Corps volunteer conducting malaria control operations with marginalized and hill tribe people in mountainous and border areas of Thailand. Managed USAID malaria control and science/technology projects in Thailand. Masters in Information Management. Managed projects for the US National Academy of Sciences/National Research Council in Thailand. Served as Management Officer for the World Health Organization in Thailand, working on health systems reform, environmental health and SARS. Became Chief of Staff of the United Nations and Director of Programs and Budget for Asia and the Pacific. Had short term assignments in diverse places outside Asia such as Beirut, Islamabad, Santiago, Nairobi, Addis Ababa, Geneva, and New York. Traveled and worked extensively within Asia and the Pacific. Married to Ladda for 28 years, who retired as the Regional Director for Administration and Finance of Family Health International, working on HIV/AIDS issues in Asia and the Pacific. Retired for over 6 years now and living in Bangkok.
